It's a pretty rough portrait. This was supposed to be a speed drawing exercise for me since I get way too obsessed with detailwork. Unforunately, I still ended up taking my time anyway, but still not as long as usual, so I guess that's good.
This was done entirely with just a single HB pencil and a kneadable eraser. I'm too reliant on my large range of pencils and that's partly what takes me so long to complete a drawing, so I wanted to try going back to only an HB pencil.
Using a single pencil is also good practice for controlling the pencil pressure. I usually don't vary the pressure much nowadays because the different grades of pencil (hard to soft) handle the tones well enough. It's hard going back to this style, but I think it's good to cultivate that skill again so I can use it at any time where needed.
Thanks! Glad you liked it! I found this one relaxing to draw, since I decided ahead of time that I will not shade and blend this one to death like I normally do. I'm still tempted to go back at it and push the dark tones, though, but I'm trying my best to resist the temptation! ....must... leave....drawing... alone....
